It's set in the fictional coastal town of Santa Carla, California, which played setting to the 80's cult classic The Lost Boys. Santa Carla is a small town located on California's central coast. It's best known for it's beachside Boardwalk which features carnival rides, rides, and shops of every sort. It acts as the main tourist attraction for the otherwise 'boring' little town, and provides jobs to a large percentage of the population. A lesser known fact about what appears to be a quaint, sleepy little village is that Santa Carla was dubbed the 'Murder Capital of the World' by it's residents during the late '70s when the first in a string of disppearances occured. Since 1978 over 150 people have gone missing without a trace within the towns borders alone. There have been dozens more in the outlying areas. The townspeople suspect the gangs that frequent the California highways to be the unfortunate culprits, but those in the know, who keep their ears to the ground and ignore the looks from their neighbors, know the truth. Vampires. Vampires roam the city streets at night and no one is safe.

first update and update limits ![[info]](http://www.insanejournal.com/img/userinfo.gif) vampyres is set to become what we hope will be an intimate, welcoming, and active community. you're required to have a first update up for your character. please have up a biography or fact sheet that gives us a good feel of who he or she is. updates are to be made every three weeks. while one liners are sometimes acceptable, please don't make a habit of using them to fufill your updating responsibilities. if we feel you're taking advantage of one-liners to hog a role, you'll be given fair warning to post a substantial update before removal. if your character is active you shouldn't have any trouble pumping out a few paragraphs every few weeks.
usernames and screennames usernames should apply to your character. andrew is fine, awkwardboy1234 is not. try to leave the underscores and x's out of your usernames as well. there are plenty of decent usernames left on this server, and i'm sure you can secure one of them. screennames are required as well, though you're more than welcome to use our threading community. try to keep your screenname relevant to your character, vampire john is perfect. fang boy 7893, not so much.
played-by'splease try to keep played-by's "age" appropriate. while it's perfectly feasible to have daniel radcliffe playing a 100 year old vampire, please don't say that he was turned when he was 30. also, while tattoos and piercings are all well and good, keep in mind that vampires are in it for the long haul. while some of the younger ones might fall victim to trends, the older vampires know that fads come and go and more than likely wouldn't get anything permanent that might blow their cover in the future.
characters you're more than welcome to bring in a human, a rogue vampire, your own coven, or even a vegetarian vampire. just keep in mind that not all vampires get along and not all humans are in on the big secret. most of the townspeople honestly believe the disappearances in santa carla are the result of gangs that travel the california highways. if you choose to have your human be aware of the vampire community keep in mind that they'll more than likely be considered a little 'crazy' by the rest of the townspeople.
ooc/ic this rule is similar to every other community. don't mix them. it's that simple.
sensitive subjects if you'd like to pursue a storyline that you think might be offensive to other members, please feel free to run it by the mod. we're all adults here, so there isn't much need for babying, but please remember that some members may find some subjects more upsetting than others. treat all these matters with respect and be sure to run your idea by the other writer before starting to scene it.
